Pola Bangles

Pola is a red coral bangle and Shakha is a white bangle made of “conch shell’’. As customs have it, one has to wear a pair of each in both the hands. Shakha pola forms an integral part of the wedding trousseau. It is worn by the bride in the wee hours of the marriage day amidst rituals and customs. Shakha pola are symbols of marriage and embodies husband’s existential state. I say this because these assets are the first ones to get depleted post husband’s demise.  There had been a plethora of films which have melodramatized this event.
